Type of peer review: double-blind peer review, which ensures the anonymity of the author(s) of the article and the reviewers.
Reviewer selection criteria: holding a PhD or Doctor of Science degree; expertise in the field of study and specialization of the journal; absence of conflict of interest with the author(s).
Stages of peer review:
- The author submits an article that meets the journal's requirements to the editorial board. Students pursuing the third (educational-scientific) level of higher education add a review by their scientific supervisor to the article.
- Article plagiarism check. The degree of uniqueness of the author's text is determined using appropriate software for all articles submitted for peer review.
- All publications submitted to the editorial board are forwarded to reviewers based on their research profile selected by the editor-in-chief.

- The peer reviewer usually concludes on whether to accept the article for publication within 14 days (filling out the appropriate form containing final recommendations).
- Peer reviewing is conducted confidentially according to the principles of double-blind peer reviewing (when neither the author nor the peer reviewer knows each other). Interaction between the author and reviewers takes place through the responsible editor of the journal.
- If the reviewer indicates the need to make certain corrections to the article, the article is sent to the author with a request to take the comments into account during the revision process or to provide a reasoned rebuttal. The author adds a letter to the revised article containing responses to all comments and explaining all changes that have been made. The revised version is resubmitted to the reviewer for a final decision and for the preparation of a reasoned conclusion regarding the possibility of publication.
- The final decision on the possibility and expediency of publication is made by the Editorial Board. The decision is documented in the reviewer’s report form and in the minutes of the Editorial Board meeting.

Journal History
According to the 2001 population census there are 49,000 Poles living on the territory of Zhytomyr region, representing 3.5% of the population. At all times being in the Ukrainian environment the Polish ethnic group tried to preserve its language, culture and traditions. After the declaration of independence of Ukraine, the Polish community of Zhytomyr was given the opportunity to participate in public life, to actively create Polish public organizations, including scientific, cultural and educational societies, artistic vocal and dance groups. Nowadays Polish non-governmental organizations in Zhytomyr region represent more than 100 centers that are responsible for the preservation of Polish traditions and historical memory, the development of Polish culture, the study of the Polish language, and the research of Polish Studies. One such unit is the Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University. Here in 1990-1991 the teaching of the Polish language in the form of an elective subject was resumed, teachers and students intensified scientific research of Polish subjects. In 2004 the Center for Polish Studies was opened at the university, and the scientific journal “Ukrainian Polonistics” was launched.
The main objective of this annual publication is to publish the results of the Polish studies, to familiarize them with Ukrainian and Polish scholars, as well as with anyone interested in Ukrainian-Polish topics.
Since 2015, “Ukrainian Polonistics” has been published in cooperation with the Higher School of Economics in Bydgoszcz (Poland).
