The collection of research papers "Contemporary Art" offers the following subject headings in correspondence to the profile of the edition and scholarly specialization in the respective fields of study:

The periodical focuses on understanding of the fundamental problems of culturology and art history, theoretical and synthetic generalization of socially important humanitarian knowledge.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted to the editorial board are reviewed. The review procedure is focused on the most objective assessment of the content of the scientific article, determining its compliance with the requirements of the journal and provides a comprehensive analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the article. Only articles that are scientifically valuable are accepted.

Review stages:
1. The author submits to the editorial board an article that meets the requirements of the journal.
2. Checking the article for plagiarism. For all articles submitted for review,
the degree of uniqueness of the author's text is determined using the appropriate software (Unicheck: Plagiarism Checker and Originality Detector).
3. All manuscripts submitted to the editorial board shall be forwarded to the profile
research by two reviewers. Appoints Reviewers Editor-in-Chief magazine. According to the decision of the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, some outstanding articles are published scientists as well as specially invited articles may be exempted from the standard review procedures.
4. For reviewing articles, they may act as reviewers members of the editorial board of the scientific journal and outsiders are highly qualified professionals who have deep professional knowledge and experience in specific scientific direction.
5.Reviews are conducted confidentially according to the principles of double-blind peer review (bilateral & quot; blind & quot; peer review when neither the author nor the reviewer know about each other). The interaction between the author and the reviewers takes place through the magazine's editorial staff.
6. In case the reviewer points out the necessity of making certain corrections to the article, the article is sent to the author with the suggestion to take into account the comments in the preparation of the updated version of the article or justify their refutation. The author adds a letter to the revised article, which answers all the comments and explains all the changes that have been made to the article. The revised version is re-submitted to the reviewer for a decision and to prepare a reasoned opinion on the possibility of publication.

The main purpose of the peer review process is to eliminate cases of poor research practices and to ensure that the interests of authors, readers, editorial board, reviewers and the institution where the research is conducted are consistent and maintained. Reviewers evaluate the theoretical and methodological level of the article, its practical value and scientific significance. In addition, the reviewers determine the compliance of the article with the principles of ethics in scientific publications and provide recommendations for eliminating violations.

The Editorial Board evaluates the manuscripts of the submitted articles regardless of race, gender, nationality, ethnic origin, citizenship, occupation, place of work and residence of the author, political, philosophical, religious and other views of his.

The Editorial Board is committed to:

  • maintain neutrality and objectivity in relation to all members of the editorial process;
  • strive to meet the needs of readers and authors;
  • continually improve the journal;
  • ensure the quality of published material;
  • support freedom of speech;
  • maintain the integrity of scientific research;
  • adhere to the principles of confidentiality of information, do not disclose ideas and/or any information about a submitted manuscript to the third parties;
  • always be willing to publish corrections, and clarifications when needed.

Publication Frequency

Collection of research papers "Contemporary Art" is published once a year in December.

Open Access Policy

The Editorial Board of collection of research paper «Contemporary Art» adheres to the open access policy to the content of the articles on the basis of which accessible public research contributes to a more global exchange of knowledge. Full-text access to the scientific articles  of scientific journal is presented on the official website in the Archives section.

The Editorial Board of the journal has taken measures to ensure high ethical and professional standards based on Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

The Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (MARI) is a unique scientific institution which undertakes fundamental research in all areas of contemporary art. Its practical and theoretical studies are aimed at the development of professional contemporary art and architecture; on implementation of the newest art techniques and practices; on the advance of the national culture, preprint preparation and publishing of monographs and collected papers from the major research fields of the Institute; on Postgraduate education in theory and history of culture.

PUBLICATION ETHICS

The Editorial Board of collection of research papers «Contemporary Art» follows the international standards of Publication Ethics based on  COPE Code of Conduct recommendations and general requirements for Journal Editors approved by the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

The Editorial Board decides whether to publish the submitted scientific article in the journal considering the following requirements: correct formatting and originality of the text (plagiarism), review results, the Editorial Board meeting’s results.

When deciding on the publication of the manuscript, the Editorial Board is guided by the publication ethics of the journal and does not allow to publish an article with an excessive percentage of non-original text (plagiarism), copyright infringement, libel, and insults, etc.

The final decision on publishing or declining the article is made by the Chief Editor.

The Reviewer is required to provide an objective and reasoned assessment of the results of the study based on the essential comments and recommendations aimed at improving the scientific level of the manuscript. The material being reviewed is considered to be a confidential document that cannot be handed for reviewing or discussing to third parties unauthorized by the Editorial Board of the journal. Unpublished data obtained from manuscripts submitted for consideration should not be used by the Reviewer for personal purposes. Feedback on the article is confidential and cannot be disclosed. The name, surname, workplace, and position of the Reviewer remain anonymous.

The fact that the Author provides the manuscript for publication in the journal confirms the authorship of the scientific research. Subject to co-authorship, the manuscript is submitted by one of the authors. The materials provided for publication should contain the results of original scientific research. If fragments from the works of other authors are used in the article, proper referencing of such quotations is required by indicating the original source in the bibliographic list to the article. The Authors are fully responsibility for the content, originality and translation of the text of the articles, the scientific level and the accuracy of the information provided, as well as the fact that the submitted materials do not contain information with limited access.

The Authors are to ensure that the submitted manuscript is not published previously and is not subject to review in another edition. In case significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in the scientific material at any stage of the publication process, the Author is obliged to notify the Editorial Board of the journal about this fact.

Journal History

The peer-reviewed, open-access collection of research papers "Contemporary Art" released since 2004, was founded by  Modern Art Research Institute of National Academy of Arts of Ukraine.

The Journal publishes research papers on problems of modern art culture in particular in fine art, music, theatre, cinematography, culturology.

Editorial boards aims at the support of research on cultural studies, philosophy of culture, art studies.

The periodical focuses on understanding of the fundamental problems of culturology and art history, theoretical and synthetic generalization of socially important humanitarian knowledge.
