Focus and Scope

“Bulletin of Kyiv National University of culture and arts. Series: Tourism” is a peer-reviewed journal, which publishes scientific articles devoted to the issues of Tourism Studies and tourism activity.

Scientific researches cover such areas as sustainable development and actual problems of tourism field and recreation; the tourist potential of historical and cultural  territories resources; relevant issues of Tourism studies; development of the tourism and Ukrainian tourist destinations; tourist business and innovative activity in the tourism; intangible cultural heritage as touristic resource; the problems of tourist industry specialists training:  formal and non-formal education.

“Bulletin of Kyiv National University of culture and arts. Series: Tourism” is focused on coverage of modern direction of interdisciplinary sociological and humanistic investigations.  The journal is based on the principles of scientific criticism.

The journal provides the first issues of following work types:

  • research articles containing new hypothetical  scientific problems solutions (scientific novelty);
  • new monographs reviews corresponding to the profile and the topics of the journal;
  • bibliographical reviews, containing a brief description of the publications corresponding to the profile and the topics of the journal;
  • reviews of scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.);
  • materials for each journal are allocated according to the genre sections and subject rubrics.

Peer Review Process

All research articles submitted to the editorial board undergo the review procedure (scientific expertise. Reviews, bibliographic reviews, informational message do not pass peer-review. The editors may not share the views expressed by authors of articles.

Review the manuscripts submitted editorial board is carried out for the purpose of compliance with the principles of scientific criticism. The unpublished earlier articles that correspond to the subject of the publications are accepted for printing. Article must contain a summary of scientific problems solution results according to the subject matter of the journal.

Separately, it is taken into account the extent of the article compliance to the requirements of manuscripts preparing for publication in “Bulletin of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts: Series Tourism” that has come to the editorial board. Editorial Board reserves the right to reject an article at the stage of preliminary consideration, if its content does not match the topics and scientific direction of the journal, if the text does not meet the standards and scientific style of Ukrainian or English languages, if the author does not meet the technical requirements for the design and structuring of the material or the material has a simulation character.

The review process is carried out by members of the Editorial Board and the independent experts in their respective fields. Review of manuscripts is held confidentially (double "blind" review). Disclosure of the privacy review entails the conducting of the repeated "blind" review or may result in a denial of publication. The editors do not provide anybody except the authors and reviewers the information concerning the manuscript including information about its receiving, content, review process, the reviewer’s criticism and final conclusion). Breach of confidentiality is possible only in the case of inaccuracy or falsification statement; in all other cases, its preservation is obligatory.

Reviewers evaluate the theoretical and methodological level of the article, its practical value and scientific importance. In addition, the compliance of the article to the principles of scientific publications ethics is determined and recommendations for eliminating cases of their violations are provided.

Review form contains the following questions:

  • Is there a scientific problem in the article?
  • Is this problem actual?
  • Is the problem solution a new one?
  • Have been the formal terms of the article fulfilled?
  • Does the title of the article correspond to the content?
  • Does the abstract correspond to the article content?
  • Are the formulation of the purpose to the scientific problem set and the way defined for its solution relevant?
  • Is the chosen methodology adequate?
  • Do the conclusions correspond to the purpose of the research?
  • Is the scientific problem solution reflected in the conclusions adequately?
  • Does not the author duplicate already known solution of scientific problem? (does the article have a scientific novelty?)
  • What is the theoretical significance of the work?
  • Are the sources used:
    • relevant?
    • actual?
    • correctly quoted?
    • Are the tables and figures presented clearly and relevantly?
    • Does the article text need to be refined? If it is so, what flaws should be eliminated?

The text of the review should contain a clear recommendation on the appropriateness or unreasonableness of the article publication.

On the results of the peer-review Editorial Board make a decision to:

  • acceptance for publication;
  • return the article to the author for revision taking into account the comments of the reviewers;
  • refusal to accept the article for publication.

Editorial Board informs authors about the decision in written form. The articles of the Editorial Board members pass the standard double “blind” peer-review procedure organized by Editor-in-Chief. Members of the Editorial Board does not participate in the consideration of their own manuscripts.

Assigning Reviewers assigning happens upon the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief and the decision of the Editorial Board.

Standard procedure of the review, as a rule, takes place within three weeks. The terms of review can be changed in any individual case with regard to the creation the conditions for the most objective evaluation of the submitted materials quality.

The author of the scientific work is provided an opportunity to familiarize with the text of the review. The interaction between the author and the reviewers happens indirectly through an editorial board of “Bulletin of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Series Tourism” or with the help of publishing platform environment OJS (Open Journal Systems). At the request of the reviewer and with the acceptance of Editorial Board the interaction between the author and reviewer may take place in the mode of direct personal contact; but with the preserving the author’s and the reviewer’s anonymity. Such decision is made in order to improve the text of the study only in the case of reviewer providing a positive comment. In case when the reviewer points out the necessity of making a certain corrections in the manuscript, the article is returned to the author for revision with a proposal to take into account the comments in the preparation of an updated version of the article or refute them reasonably). During the repeated refined materials presentation to the Editorial Board the author accompanied them with a message concerning acceptance or non-acceptance reasons of reviewer’s suggestions and comments all changes made in the article. The copy corrected by the author is submitted the same reviewer for decision making and preparation of substantiated conclusion about article publishing possibility.

The date of acceptance of the article for publication is considered to be the date of receipt by the editors of the reviewer positive conclusion (or the decision of Editorial Board) regarding the appropriateness and possibility of the article publication.

In case of disagreement with the opinion of the reviewer, the author of the manuscript has the right to provide a reasoned reply to the Editorial Board. In such circumstances the article is considered at the meeting of the Working Group of the Editorial Board. Editorial Board may refer the article on additional or new review to another specialist. Editorial Board reserves the right to reject articles in the case of failure or reluctance of the author to consider the recommendations and comments of the reviewers. Scientific article, which got approval reviews, is transferred to the literary and technical editing. Interaction between the author and the literary (technical) editor may take place in any form – in person, by e-mail, by means of video conferencing, by phone. Minor stylistic corrections of formal nature that do not affect the content of the article, are made by literary (technical) editor. Edited and prepared for publication materials finally agreed with the author before publishing.

Recommendation for the publication of the next issue of the journal is made by the Academic Council of Kyiv National University of culture and Arts, and is recorded in the relevant minutes.

Publication Frequency

The journal is issued twice a year (July, December).

Open Access Policy

“Bulletin of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Series Tourism” practices a policy of an immediate open access to the published content, maintaining the principles of the free dissemination of scientific information and the global exchange of knowledge for the sake of the overall social progress. Under the "open access" we understand the opening for all publications on Internet which one can read, download, copy, distribute, print, find or link to the full texts of the relevant articles or use for other lawful goals.

Anti-plagiarism Policy

For all the articles that are submitted for review, the level of uniqueness of the author's text is determined by using the appropriate software, that shows the level of uniqueness the article, sources used and the partial match text (“UNICHECK”). The citation is allowed to the extent that does not exceed 20% of the total volume of the article. Thus, the uniqueness should not be less than 80%. At the same time, first of all the  attention is paid, to the level of novelty aiming at scientific problem solution suggested in the article. The volume of citation can be greater than one pointed earlier due to the need for the accurate analysis of proposed before scientific problem solutions.

The Cost of Publication

The publication cost is free. Shipment of the journal is carried out at the expense of the authors.

Editorial Policy and Ethical Norms

In its activity the Editorial Board is guided by the principle of scientific criticism and falsificationism of K. Popper, the priorities of the scientific, objectivity, impartiality, compliance with the academic integrity and international academic standards. The relationship between the editors, authors and reviewers are based on compliance with ethical standards defined by the Committee on publication ethics (Committee on Publication Ethics, COPE, https://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors_1.pdf).

No waivers or discounts are offered for open access publication in this journal.

Authors ethics

The authors bear personal responsibility for given to the Editorial Board of the journal manuscript. The authors undertake to:

  • submit editorial material not previously published and is not under consideration in another edition. If the elements of the manuscript were published in another article, authors must refer to their earlier work.Word-for-word copying of their own work and their rewording are unacceptable, they can only be used as a basis for new conclusions;
  • provide reliable results of research. The author is responsible for the accuracy of the stated in article actual material (dates, proper names, quotations etc.). Inherently false or falsified statements are equivalent to the unethical behavior and are considered to be inadmissible;
  • in the case of necessity upon request of the Editorial Board to provide source data for editorial review. Authors must provide free access to such data and store the data for a long time after their publication;
  • to comply with ethics of scientific citation. If you use fragments of other people's works and/or borrowing approvals by other authors, the article should have the appropriate link and must provide the author and the first source. Excessive borrowing, and plagiarism in any form, including the unstructured quote, paraphrase or assignment of the rights to the results of other research is unethical and unacceptable actions. The articles, which are the compilation of material published by other authors, without their own creative copyright processing and comprehension by the editors of the journal are not accepted. The author agrees that his work in the case of promulgation in the printed version of the publication will be available on the website of the journal.

Review Ethics

The purpose of peer-review institution ”Bulletin of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Series Tourism” is maintaining the highest ethical standards in scientific research:

  • the reviewer must refuse from  the review if his qualification and direction of training do not correspond directly to the article; 
  • the purpose of the reviewer is to ascertain the scientific level of the article (existence of scientific problem solution, scientific simplicity, the absence of metaphysics and parascience) and determination of the degree of its compliance with the literary and ethical standards;
  • to ensure the right of each author on intellectual property, the reviewer is prohibited from any use of the received arguments and conclusions of the author without permission of the latter;
  • in the case of interest conflict or professional or personal links of the author and the reviewer, that can influence reviewer judgment, he or she must return the article pointing out the conflict of interests;
  • accusations of plagiarism requires reviewer to present well-justified substantiation of own comments (providing comparative tables that reflect the specific link to the source of borrowing).
  • If a reviewer's doubt about plagiarism, authorship or falsification of data, it is obligatory to refer to the Editorial Board with the requirement for the collective consideration of the author's article;
  • support the frequency output of the “Bulletin of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts: Series Tourism” requires the reviewer's timely review and respect for author personality.

Editorial ethics

Members of the Editorial Board are responsible for the publication of the manuscript submitted, guided by the following fundamental principles:

  • reliability, scientific novelty and significance of materials submitted for publication, their originality and independence;
  • breaking of any cooperation with the author if in his or her text of the article it was found plagiarism, violation of the standards of academic integrity and copyright;
  • correspondence of scientific articles and other materials submitted for publishing to journal policy;
  • preventing conflicts of interest of members of the Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief regarding articles that they reject or approve for publication;
  • privacy in the organization of the submitted manuscripts review;
  • compliance with copyright on the manuscripts submitted for consideration, the inadmissibility of their use  by members of the Editorial Board for personal purposes or transferring them to the third parties (without written agreement);
  • preservation of copyright by the authors after the articles publications and their placement in the public domain;
  • when identifying conflict situation it’s necessary to renew violated rights, and identifying an error to promote the publication of corrections or retractions.
