У статті розглянуто основні аспекти формування купецького стану України в ХVІІІ–ХІХ ст. Проаналізовано основні етапи юридичного оформлення статусу цієї соціальної групи, станово-професійну організацію купецтва протягом вказаного хронологічного періоду. На основі джерельних матеріалів та сучасних досліджень висвітлено структуризацію та кількісні зміни, особливості правового статусу купців як окремої верстви
