Abstract

The article deals with the topical problem of participation of the modern Ukrainian women in charity. In this connection was actualized the great experience of the one of the most famous women of Ukraine, representative of progressive national elite, Catherine Skarzhinsky (18541932). There was presented her biography, was demonstrated that she was the generous benefactor, editor, the fellow campaigner of the local history, founder of the first private museum in Ukraine. There was considered the contribution of Catherine Skarzhinsky in the development of education, her progressive cultural-educational ideas: a) general education despite the property status, sex, nation; b) general primary education; c) national education and upbringing according to the national-cultural traditions; d) unity of the theory and practice in education; e) professional orientation of education. There was studied the experience of creation and patronage on the agricultural school in village Terny, Cruglitska school, Lubenska Ukrainian high school. There was noted that the experience of the famous benefactor needs the creative critical comprehension in the modern context for its actualization and the possible use in the development of the modern educational branch
