Tsarist policy regarding creation and development of merchants in Ukraine

The main aspects of the formation of the merchant class in Ukraine in XVIII - XIX centuries are considered in the article. The main stages of legal registration of the status of this social group, caste and professional organization of merchants for a certain chronological period are analyzed. On the basis of source materials and advanced researches it is highlighted the structuring and quantitative changes, aspects of the legal status of merchants as separate layers
