Author Guidelines

Materials for publishing should be written in the field of linguistics and translation. The following languages are recommended: Ukrainian, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Greek, French, Russian.

The text of an article must meet the international requirements obligatory for scientific articles.

An article should reflect the up-to-date state of a scientific problem, contain new results obtained through the research provided. An article should propose a new aspect of investigation and contain well-argued conclusions. It is desirable to illustrate a publication with examples. The main requirements are quality, originality, topicality. An article should be readable and match the declared topic.

An article should contain at least 8 pages or more.

Rules for publishing materials: Publishing materials should include: text of the article; two reviews (scanned); information about the author(s) (in Ukrainian, English and Russian): family name, first name, patronymic (in nominative case, without abbreviations), the title of an article, its author’s place of work, academic degree and academic rank/ studying at the post-graduate course, working for doctor’s degree, address for sending letters, telephone number, e-mail, fax (if available), this information is to be sent to zbirnykninako@ukr.net in three files, enclosed into one letter. Names of the files should be written using the Latin alphabet. For example: Ivanenko_article for an article, Ivanenko_dan for reviews.

After the final checking, all the materials should be sent to the editorial board in the printed version to the address: 73 Velyka Vasylkivska str., building 1, office 701, Kyiv National Linguistic University, Kyiv-150, 03680.

CONTENTS AND FORMATTING OF THE MATERIALS are sent to the Editorial of the Collected Scholarly Work Articles. All the data included into the article should be original. It is forbidden to send articles which have already been published in other editions or sent for further publishing. It is desirable to divide all the information into structural bloсks (it is not necessary to have the word “block” in the text):

BLOCK 1 – number УДК (obligatory) which is indicated in the left corner, bold type Times New Roman, size 14; near УДК it is desirable to indicate the section, to which the article belongs: Actual LINGUISTICS PROBLEMS; Problems of COMPARATIVE-HISTORICAL LINGUISTIC and LINGUISTIC TYPOLOGY; Problems of LINGUISTIC SEMANTICS; Problems of PRAGMALINGUISTICS; Problems of COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS; Problems of LINGUISTIC COMMUNICATIONS; TRANSLATION PROBLEMS.

BLOCKS 2–4 – the following information should be written in Ukrainian, Russian, English. If the article is written in German, Spanish, Italian, Greek, or French, blocks 2–4 should be written in the original (it is not allowed to use computer translation, as it does not take into consideration style and word connection in sentences. As a result, text becomes incomprehensible and meaningless): • title (no abbreviation is allowed) should be typed in bold CAPITAL LETTERS; • author(s)’ family name(s) and initials (capital letters in italics); • address for sending letters, post index should be indicated too, telephone number, e-mail, fax (if available); if the article was written by several authors, it is necessary to indicate all information about all the authors separately (capital letters, without underlining); author(s)’ academic degree, academic rank, position or (post-graduate) student status, working for doctor’s degree (it is necessary to add some information about the place of work (studying) (Institute, department), abbreviations are forbidden (capital letters, without underlining). • organization‘s full name (indicating its property type, departmental subordination – abbreviation is not allowed), its address (with the post index) (capital letters without underlining); • abstract (150–250 words) (starting with the paragraph, font size 12, italics; the word “abstract” should not be written); • key words (5–6 words, without abbreviations and shortenings) (starting with the paragraph, font size № 12, italics). All information within BLOCKS 2–4 (abstract and key words) should be typed using centred type Times New Roman font size 14.

BLOCK 5 – full text of an article in original.

An article should contain obligatory sections: - Introduction (it includes such sub-sections as problem description, brief overview of topic publications, topicality, aim, object and subject of investigation, novelty, materials of investigation). -Main Body of the Article. - Results obtained, their discussion. - Conclusions of the investigation. - Prospects of further research. - Literature and main sources of the investigation. - References (formatted according to the international standards).

The text of an article should be typed according to the following requirements: 1. it should be legible, clear-cut, format A4, Microsoft Word format, line interval is 1, font Times New Roman 14 (for the list of literature – Times New Roman 12), all the papers are enumerated, amendments are not allowed; 2. margins: up – 1,6 cm, down – 1,6 cm, right – 1,75 cm, left – 1,75 cm 3. if an article contains pictures and drawings, every picture (scheme, diagram, graph) should be provided with a general caption and all necessary explanations of the figures, letters, symbols; 4. in the electronic text the automatic paragraph is 1,25 cm, automatic margin adjustment and other procedures are obligatory. The text of an article should not contain word divisions, tabulation leveling, unnecessary gaps (omissions). Dash (–) and hyphen (-) are to be consistently differentiated. The key “Enter” should be used only when a new paragraph begins, it should not be used in the middle of a paragraph at the beginning of a a new line; 5. a full stop (dot) is not used after titles, family names, picture (diagram) signing. Indivisible gaps (blanks) are necessary between every family name and initials. Initials are divided with dots and are written before the family name. There is no comma between the family name and initials; 6. text fragments provided as illustrations should be typed in italics. Some elements of text illustrations may be underlined if it is necessary to distinguish them. 7. references in the text are provided in square brackets with the first figure indicating the serial number of the source in the list of literature, for example [11, p.8]; if it is necessary to mention several sources, their numbers are separated with a semicolon, for example [1; 5; 9].

Requirements to electronic file illustration. The graphic material quality should correspond to the scientific article standards: all illustrations are to be informative, with good contrast, clear-cut, with high space resolution. Illustrations used in the Word format before are not to be reproduced.

Graphic file format: graphs, schemes, illustrations, diagrams, drawings should be saved in format JPEG. Resolution – 300 dpi (dots pur inch). All this information should be given in a separate file as appendix.

BLOCK 6 – literature (word “LITERATURE” is printed in the centre of a line, capital bold type letters, font size 14). References should be given in the original, paragraph, font size № 12, but the family name and initials should be italicized. References should be in the alphabetical order. Russian and Ukrainian references are to be provided at the beginning of the reference list, foreign references are to follow them (in the alphabetical order).Works by the same author should be indicated according to the years of publishing, starting from the earliest ones. References in the text of an article should be typed in square brackets. The author is responsible for accuracy of the data. References with violations of the requirements will be moved off the literature list. It is recommended to refer to works by the members of the editorial council.

BLOCK 7 – sources (all information should be represented according to block 6 rules), this block continues the BLOCK 6 (literature) enumeration.

BLOCK 8 – list of literature titled “REFERENCES” (word “REFERENCES” should be in the very centre of a line in capital bold letters, type № 14), all the references in the list should meet the international standards and, in the case of Cyrillic alphabet usage, the literature should be transliterated using programme BGN (Board of Geographic Names) (http://www.translit.ru) followed by the English translation in square brackets. The list should duplicate the list of literature in block 6 and source base in block 7, whether it contains or does not contain a foreign source in the list. If the list contains foreign sources, they should be duplicated.

Example of dissertation, author’s abstract (abstract of thesis) description: Semenov V. I. Matematicheskoe modelirovanie plazmy v sisteme kompaktnyi tor. Diss. dokt. fiz.-mat. nauk [Mathematical modeling of the plasma in the compact torus. Dr. phys. and math. sci. diss.]. Moscow, 2003. 272 p. English titles of articles should be informative. No abbreviations and transliterations are allowed, with the exception of proper names. English abstracts and key-words are the only source of information for foreign scholars. Abstract should be: • compact, logical, clear-cut, accurate (150–250 words), informative (it is recommended to avoid general words, giving minor information, describing general facts); • original, containing necessary information, representing an object and an aim of an investigation, materials and methods, results and practical application. The description should be logical, indicating data in the abstract. Conclusions are obligatory. An abstract must not contain overview of literature or data obtained in different investigations as well as irrelevant information and data. • written in comprehensive English, it is forbidden to use internet-translator, as it does not produce grammatically and semantically correct, coherent and logical texts.

All articles are reviewed and checked for plagiarism. An article is not recommended for publishing if it fails to match the requirements. Publication requires payment (payment is provided after an article has been recommended for publishing).
