Growth of electricity tariffs makes actual decrease in specific expenses of energy on the production of liquid air separation products. In this regard, when developing new air separation unit (ASU) seek reveal and use possible reserves of increasing their effectiveness. It is shown that specific expenses for the production of liquid oxygen in the ASU medium pressure can be significantly reduced by the use of multi-shaft unit's expander-compressor unit (ECU) with two stages air expansion. Comparison of such installations containing ECU with a known ASU showed that specific expenses of energy can be reduced in them from 1,12 to 0,94 kWh / kg of liquid oxygen.
