Abstract

The efficiency of adsorption processes substantially depends on the sorbent temperature. Rise in temperature is accompanied by reduction of sorbent adsorption capacity; on the other hand, temperature fall increases it. In the installations where pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is used the duration of the adsorption cycle does not exceed a few minutes. At the same time the sorbent temperature in the cycle changes in quite wide limits and can essentially differ from the temperature of the entering gas that is purified. This phenomenon has been investigated in detail experimentally and by calculation. The calculation has shown that in the PSA-installations intended for purifying hydrogen, natural gas and nitrogen production the temperature in the adsorbers changes in narrower range of values than in the oxygen installations.
