Abstract

In order to obtain high-purity helium from neon helium mixture it is purified in a cryogenic adsorber in the final stage of operation. In the adsorber the length of the sorbent layer can exceed its diameter by ten times. For that reason the adsorber is made of several sections placed in a common nitrogen bath. The configuration variants of the adsorber composed of several sections are analyzed. The formulas for the calculation of the geometric parameters of the adsorber individual elements with a given diameter of the cooling nitrogen bath have been obtained. For several constructional variants the expenditure of liquid nitrogen and energy required to regenerate the sorbent has been determined. The operating costs for providing one cycle of the adsorber operation have been calculated. The optimum regeneration temperature at which the magnitude of the costs for the mixture purification has a minimum value was found.
