Binary mixtures are used as working bodies in refrigerating and cryogenic systems. A general description of the main types of phase equilibria in the mixtures that can be used in effective refrigerating machines and cryogenic plants is given in the paper. Developed technique is described and a reliable algorithm for calculating phase equilibria in binary mixtures of liquid-vapor, liquid-liquid and liquid-liquid-vapor in different concentrations, including those which correspond to binary heterogeneous or homogeneous azeotropes is presented. The technique does not impose any special requirements to the form of state equations. It is only necessary for the equation of state to describe the liquid and vapor, and satisfy the accuracy of the description of thermal and thermodynamic properties of mixtures.
