Abstract. The article deals with certain issues of the formation of value orientations of gifted adolescent pupils in the process of studying social science disciplines. It is indicated that fundamental changes in society necessitate updating its basic value priorities. As a result, the relevance of the formation of value orientations in the younger generation is significantly increasing. Particularly acute this problem arises in adolescence, because in the «crisis of the transition period» of the individual that is a period of an active development of self-awareness when new needs and value orientations are formed.
It is determined that school teachers should pay special attention to the formation of value orientations in gifted adolescents, who, if properly educated, can join the country’s creative elite. The students’ talent manifests itself in the presence of some of their desires, abilities and inclinations, which allow them to carry out a certain type of activity successfully and achieve high results in it. At the same time, the development of a gifted student is primarily due to the purposeful pedagogical influence.
Content of the social science subjects has a significant potential in the formation of value orientations for adolescent students. They are in their purpose associated with certain cultural and historical heritage of mankind, social norms and attitudes. Therefore, when teaching these disciplines, it is necessary to create purposefully favorable conditions for the formation of value orientations in gifted students. This implies, first of all, the valuable enrichment of the content of these disciplines. In addition, in the educational process, it is expedient to use various active and interactive methods of organizing educational activities of schoolchildren: brainstorming, discussions, creation of a «decision tree», problem solving tasks, role-plays, trainings, staging, etc.
