The specific features of the electron density-of-states distribution in energy of magnesiun films as well as the effect of oxidation upon his distribution are studied by low-energy electron backscattering spectroscopy, the applied technique of constant additional sputtering of fresh Mg layers provided the atomically clean probed surface. The proposed method enables not only the details of the density of electron states distribution in the fresh films to be investigated, but also the evolution of their surface electron states under exposure to the atmosphere of the vacuum chamber residual gases at the pressure p-10-7 Pa at room temperature to be studied.References
