Abstract

Pb2GeS4 crystals were obtained by the method of directional solidification from the Bridgman-Stockbarger melt. With the help of X-ray diffraction analysis, their affiliation to the monoclinic syngonia was confirmed, etc. ip. P2, s. The main structural elements of Pb<sub>2</sub>GeS<sub>4</sub> are isolated tetrahedrons [GeS4], linked to each other by Pb<sup>2+</sup> cations

Using the methods of long-wavelength IR and Raman spectroscopy, it was possible to obtain almost complete spectral information (mode frequencies and their polarization properties) on the vibrational states corresponding to the optical phonons of the center of the Brillouin zone. For optical phonons of the Pb<sub>2</sub>GeS<sub>4</sub> crystal, a complete correspondence was obtained between the number of observed bands and their polarization properties with the predictions of group-theoretical analysis for a crystal structure containing elements of the [GeS4] tetrahedra type whose symmetry parameters are known from X-ray data.
