Изучение диатомовых из осадков нижнего интервала колонки К97-18 в море Скоша выявило в комплексах сочетание позднеплейстоцен-голоценовых и миоценовых видов, что объясняется обилием в породе включений среднемиоценового диатомита. Были установлены время переотложения, агенты и пути транспортировки, а также предложены возможные места локализации коренных слоев диатомита
