The article examines the problem of the origin of phraseological units with the anthroponymic component in modern English. The structural features of English phraseological units with an anthroponymic component, their historical-cultural and artistic-literary marking are described.
Based on the genetic characteristics of the anthropological component, genetic groups of such units are distinguished, in particular, phrasemes with a mythologeme component, with an anthroponymic component of biblical origin, with an anthroponymic component of literary origin, and with a folklore component.
Quantitative indicators of each genetic group of phrases are studied, it is made a conclusion about the quantitative superiority of phrases with an anthroponymic component of ancient and biblical origin. The authors analyse the multicomponent and polyfunctional orientation of English phraseological units with anthroponymic components in detail.
