Population aging is one of the key demographic trends of the 21st century, which is particularly acute in Ukraine due to a significant population decline and an increasing proportion of elderly people. This article examines the main issues faced by older individuals, such as limited access to quality social and healthcare services, financial insecurity, social isolation, and age discrimination. The current state of Ukraine's social protection system, which includes both public and private sectors, is analyzed, revealing its shortcomings. Prospective directions for improving social work with elderly people are identified, including the integration of best international practices, development of home-based social services, enhancement of social workers' qualifications, combating age discrimination, and formulating long-term strategies for social support. Special attention is given to new challenges caused by the war and the needs of internally displaced elderly persons. A comprehensive approach to addressing the issues of older individuals can ensure a decent quality of life, social integration, and active participation in society.
