Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive theoretical and analytical review of the impact of digital technologies on the emergence of cognitive overload and the development of professional burnout in the context of the modern information society. The relevance of the research problem is substantiated in light of the rapid growth of information volumes, the intensification of digital communication, and the increasing demands for speed in data processing within professional activities. The main scientific approaches to defining the phenomena of cognitive overload and professional burnout are examined, and their essential characteristics as well as specific features of manifestation in a digitalized environment are identified.

Key factors contributing to cognitive overload are analyzed, including excessive information flow, multitasking, constant availability through digital communication channels, fragmentation of attention, and the need for rapid task switching. It is determined that the systematic influence of these factors leads to the depletion of cognitive resources, decreased concentration, and deterioration in memory and information processing quality.

Special attention is paid to the psychological mechanisms underlying the development of professional burnout in a digital environment, particularly emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced professional efficiency, and disruption of the work-life balance. The findings of contemporary studies on the negative consequences of cognitive overload for work productivity, decision-making quality, emotional state, and overall psychological well-being are summarized.

Promising directions for the prevention and mitigation of these phenomena are proposed, including the implementation of digital hygiene principles, the development of self-regulation skills, optimization of work processes, and the application of organizational strategies to support employees. The importance of fostering a culture of mindful use of digital technologies as a key factor in maintaining mental health is emphasized.

The obtained results can be used in further scientific research as well as in practical applications within the fields of occupational psychology, organizational psychology, and digital well-being.
