Pixel-art as a phenomenon in the system of graphic design

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to investigate the history of origin and stylistic features of pixel art as a unique and expressive graphic style in the age of technical progress. The methodology of the study consists in the comprehen- sive analysis of historical, informational, and graphic materials proving the phenomenal significance of the style and its importance in graphic design nowadays. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the confirmation of the steady state of the retro style at the moment of discussions about its viability. Its robustness supports the progressive role of portable devices and tendencies towards nostalgia. Conclusions. Pixel-art has long been fixed as an independent trend in digital art. It does not require forcible promotion, does not lose its individuality by taking a minimum of different innovations. Due to its expressiveness, ease of details, it retains an interest in a detailed acquaintance with the project.
