A comparative analysis of european and german pharmacopoeias requirements to the "bitterness value" test

A comparative analysis of European (PhEur 8.4) and «Tausendgüldenkraut» German (DAB 10) pharmacopoeias requirements to the "Bitterness value" test was carried out. It has been shown, that the results of research of 21 series of centaury herb, collected in different regions of Ukraine, meets the PhEur 8.4 requirements "Bitterness value" and are characterized by poor convergence of results.
Aim. The aim of our research was to compare PhEur 8.4 and DAB 10 requirements to the "Bitterness value" test, and to substantiate the choice of method according to the PhEur requirements.
Methods. 2.8.15. "Bitterness value" test, described in 2.8. “Pharmacognosy methods” chapter (PhEur/SPhU), which allows determining general bitters content in herbal material.
Results. Bitters content in 21 series of centaury herb was determined. Results of research show that the analyzed samples of centaury herb meet the requirements of PhEur 8.4. Monograph "Bitterness value".
Conclusion. National samples of centaury herb study in terms of "Bitterness value" according to the «Centaury» PhEur 8.4. and «Tausendgüldenkraut» DAB 10 Monographs requirements was carried out. A comparative analysis of the normative documents has shown that the "Bitterness value" test is rational to carry out in accordance to 2.8.15. "Bitterness value" PhEur 8.4/SPhU.
