Abstract

Increased attention to solving problems of mountain areas necessitates research to study approaches to ensure sustainable development of mountain areas of the region and the formation of an effective mining policy. The article summarizes the theoretical and practical approaches for development of mountain areas on the basis of consideration of international and domestic experience, to identify their role in the system of the regional economy. The expediency of singling mainstreaming issues of social and economic development of mountain areas, environmental security and biodiversity conservation in the Carpathian region and approaches to management to find an optimal model of effective solution primarily within a single region are proved. The study was conducted in order to identify and formation of scientific approaches to the actualization of mountain areas at different hierarchical levels of management to ensure a comfortable living environment of hill-men, enhancing their welfare, protection of mountain ecosystems and the optimum utilization of the resource potential of the territory of mountain area.
