Walnut export potential of Ukraine: formation problems and development prospects

Abstract

In this work, the market of walnuts in Ukraine is studied, the key problems of exporting enterprises of Lviv region and recommendations for their solution are developed. The object of the study is the companies exporting peeled walnuts from the Lviv region. The subject of the study is the export potential of walnut-producing enterprises of the Lviv region. The research was carried out on the basis of theoretical and practical provisions of modern economic theory and in the field of formation and development of the export potential of agro-industrial products as well. Electronic resources on this topic, in particular the portal of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, served as an information base for writing the work. The volume of walnut exports by enterprises of the Lviv region during the last five years was analyzed. Stakeholders were identified regarding the development of the export potential of walnut in the Lviv region and a matrix of their influence/interest in the implementation of this process was formed. A comparative characterization of the walnut cultivation potential in the regions of Ukraine was carried out, as well as the scope of their customs clearance. The reasons for the decrease in the volume of walnut exports over the past 5 years have been singled out. The influence of internal and external environmental factors on the development of the export potential of walnut in Ukraine is analyzed. The importance of state regulation of the activity of exporting enterprises of both agricultural products in general and nut crops in particular was emphasized. Since Ukraine is one of the leading exporters of certain types of products of the agro-industrial complex, it successfully competes abroad and has a huge demand. The export of products of the agro-industrial complex is a constant source of income for the country. Such advantages create all the conditions for the development of the country’s agro-industrial complex, and, therefore, the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex must develop and use the existing potential.
