The purpose of the article is to suggest a metahistory-based approach to the creative heritage and personality of J.S.Bach. The composer’s creative heritage is analyzed as being related to three major styles in the history of the European culture: Baroque, Classicism and Romanticism. Bach’s universalism is actualized for musical education. The research methodology lies in applying the integrated, cultural, biographical methods, as well as the method of musicological analysis. The above methodological approach allows to reveal and analyze peculiarities of Bach’s life and creative development in order to discover new aspects of his unique integrating role in the history of musical art. Scientific novelty of the research consists in expanding the range of consideration of the phenomenon of J.S. Bach from historic specificity to metahistorical generalization that provides a new perspective to understanding of some aspects of his work. The study demonstrates that the seed of the upcoming epoch is contained not only in Bach’s musical heritage but also in the very trajectory of his life. Considering Bach’s artistic heritage from metahistorical perspective allows to add certain nuances to the problem of interpretation of his works, especially in instrumentalist training. Conclusions. Metahistorical approach to the creative heritage of J.S.Bach makes it possible to perceive the implicit causality of his universalism. Belonging to the Baroque system
J.S. Bach goes beyond its limits preparing a space for new styles – not only for Classicism but also for Romanticism. Interpretation of Bach’s works is a sort of artistic and personality maturity test for a musician.
