Purpose of the article is to define the prerequisites for the emergence of a new style of movement, which conceptually influenced the emergence of a new kind of dance art of the early twentieth century. Methodology is based on the application of the historical-analytical method (for identification of the global processes that determined the most significant achievements in the culture of the late XIX century, which fundamentally influenced the further development of the events of the beginning of the ХХ th century), the cultural-theoretical (for the definition of general cultural movements at the turn of the century), structural -stylistic (for the study of the main features of the emergence of modern dance as a new style of movement). The scientific novelty of the work lies in the determination of historical prerequisites for the emergence of a new style of movement in the art of dance. Conclusions. In the early twentieth century through the active development of capitalism, industrialization and socialization of society there were some shifts in culture, forming new views on art and its implementation. Civilizational human development changes the paradigm of its spiritual and cultural life. There were appearing such art movements as modern and expressionism that influenced the development and transformation of the art of dance and the formation of a new style of movement in the choreography.
