The purpose of the article is to identify the features of stage design in the context of scenographic embodiment of literary works on the stage of modern Ukrainian drama theater. Research methodology. An analytical method was used, which contributed to the development of foreign scientific works on scenographic art, as well as the study of artistic solutions of specific theatrical productions; the method of terminological analysis, due to which the concept of "scenography" is clarified and supplemented; functional-typological method, by means of which the functions of stage design are concretized and the specifics of their manifestation are revealed to the scenographic solution of performances based on the works of Ukrainian writers, etc. Scientific novelty. Stage design as a kind of scenographic types of theatrical space is studied; features of stage design in the context of scenographic embodiment of literary works on the stage of modern Ukrainian drama theater are revealed. Conclusions. Without losing its originality and continuing to develop in the directions laid down by the leading Ukrainian theater artists of the second half of the twentieth century, the vocabulary of scenographic art in Ukraine is now complex, multilayered and multifaceted metaphors. Modern scenography of Ukraine actively uses the techniques of other arts – it is closely related to architecture, which creates new stage constructions, uses design discoveries, fine and cinematography, graphics and sculpture. The study found that stage design as a way to design the play space in the productions of modern Ukrainian directors appears in two main versions – in the form of architectural and spatial compositions that combine in one specially designed building functionalism and figurative expressiveness, as well as abstract-neutral environment, against which in the processes of the play there are design elements. The principle of space design inherent in stage design determines the widespread use of this scenographic type due to the possibility of creating a variety of spatial models.
Key words: scenography, stage design, scenographic types, specific place of action, Ukrainian drama theaters.
