The purpose of the research is to highlight the colour in the bookplate as a means of deeper disclosure of the creative intent. The research methodology is to use an analytical approach in order to highlight the peculiarities of the development of the bookplate of the independence era. An important element of the research was observation and description, which allowed us to study and outline the evolution of the colour development in the bookplates over the past century. The novelty of the study lies in the systematisation and generalisation of the achievements of artists working in the complex field of multi-colour bookplates, important historical and socio-cultural changes that have shown a deepened interest in it on the part of graphic artists. Conclusions. Significant achievements of Ukrainian bookplate artists working on colour bookplates have become known worldwide and have been duly appreciated. Their achievements, in addition to receiving numerous awards at international exhibitions and competitions, have led to orders from collectors around the world and have been published in the prestigious International Portuguese Bookplate Encyclopaedia, and therefore require careful study. The art of the colour bookplate is marked, first of all, by the creation of new paradigms and canons and vividly reflects the tastes and preferences of society.
Key words: colour bookplate, collectors, graphic techniques, thematic focus, artistic features.
