The purpose of the article is to substantiate the significance of choral writing in the system of categories of musicology of the 21st century. Methodology. The methodology of the paper is to use historical, terminological, systemic, interpretative methods, which allows highlighting the significance of choral writing as the most critical factor in the system of categories of musicology of the 21st century. The mentioned methods of the paper contribute to the consideration of choral writing as a system object, which is the basis of composer creativity, performance, and choral studies. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in substantiating the functioning of the choral writing in the system of categories of musicology: the choral writing appears in the composer's creative work as fixation of the principles of the choir's thinking of the author; in the performance process reading the choral writing; in choral studies choral writing is aimed at the methodological foundations of its performing reproduction by the conductor. Conclusions. In the system of categories of musicology of the 21st century, the choral writing is revealed step by step as an objective criterion of choral thinking: composer creativity – performance – choral studies. The system of categories of musicology of the 21st century serves the quality of the set-up (apparatus) of choral writing, appearing as a process of creativity, performance, and perception. Therefore, the choral writing should be considered to be an objective condition of interpersonal communication of subjects of musical creativity: composer – performer – listener.
