The article is of an exploratory nature and is devoted to the theme of the influence of the world market of alternative finance on the development of small and medium business. The active development of the global international market for alternative financing has led to a discourse on its impact on the activity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country. The study showed that the likelihood of attracting funding in the alternative finance market depends largely on the type of the business activity of the SMEs. A matrix of the most used sources of alternative finance by the region (Asia, America, Europe) was formed. The greatest opportunities for alternative finance exist for businesses operating in the technology sector, retail and wholesale, as well as construction. In addition, studies have shown that cross-border SMEs’ activity is increasing with the use of all alternative funding models. The analysis of transactional flows across the European continent, which are related to cross-border crowdfunding by platforms, and their approaches to internationalization, suggests that most of them implement international expansion strategies.
