The publication presents a lesson plan, instructional scenario, assessment criteria, and methodological guidelines for a practical class designed for senior undergraduate students majoring in language education at university level. The class is aimed at developing students' communicative competence, their integrated understanding of historical models of language education and the continuity of their traditions in contemporary universities, as well as their skills in collaborative discussion in Ukrainian and written source analysis. The purpose of the class is to develop students' ability to describe and compare the educational models of the KyivMohyla Academy, the Zamoyski Academy, and the Jagiellonian University, and to analyse the origins of contemporary language teaching methods.
The class is structured in several stages: (1) preliminary study of materials provided by the instructor and supplemented by students' independent research on the organisation of studies and methods of language teaching in universities, including those based on the Ratio Studiorum (1599); (2) classroom activities aimed at activating prior knowledge and tasks focused on engaging with new material; (3) group discussion comparing language teaching practices in several early universities and identifying the influence of historical traditions on language teaching methods in modern universities; and (4) consolidation of the key concepts of the topic through written analysis of educational systems accompanied by students' own conclusions.
