DIGITAL ARCHIVES IN THE MODERN SOCIETY: TERMINOLOGICAL AND CONTENT ASPECTS

Abstract

Purpose of Article. The purpose of the article is to analyze the development of digital archives in the modern information society; to identify the definition of the term «digital archive» in the terminological and informative aspect; to carry out the comparative analysis of characteristics with the term «electronic archive». The methodology of the research is to apply general scientific and special methods of cognition, in particular, authorized comparative, terminological, chronological and other methods of research, among which a special place is a review and analytical monitoring of publications. Scientific novelty of the work is that a comparative analysis of the concepts of «digital» and «electronic» archives in the terminological and substantive aspect, on the basis of scientific and methodological provisions of specialists in the field of archival studies and other sciences has been carried out, which allowed to generalize and specify the digital archive. Conclusions. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the notion of «digital archive» and «electronic archive» have differences in the content aspect. The digital archive includes digital archive sources (still images, sound recordings, movies, notes, illustrations, etc.), that is, digitized archival materials that are scanned, recognized and consistent with all the conditions for digitizing documents. Electronic archives collect electronic collections that cover both digitized documents and all other electronic documents that have already been created as electronic («born-digital») records, using computer technology and information and communication technologies.
