THE ELECTRONIC LIBRARY “UKRAINIKA” AS THE UNIQUE INTEGRATED RESOURCE OF DIGITAL DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE

The purpose of the paper is to consider the main tasks and functional features of the electronic library “Ukrainika” as the unique integrated resource of Ukraine’s digital documentary heritage, to open up a contemporary perspective on the role of the library as a social and cultural institution. The methodology of the research consists in using of the general scientific methods: analysis, synthesis, logical method, method of the research results visualization. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the expansion of ideas about the e-library “Ukrainika”, that archives and actualizes the valuable free-of-charge online electronic resources in different languages, that contain knowledge about Ukraine, for users. Conclusions. “Ukrainika” is a national reference, information and documentary resource of archival, manuscript and print sources, created in Ukraine or other countries, about Ukraine, its history, economy, culture. It is based on the principles of accounting and accumulation of documentary heritage of the Ukrainian people. Among other projects “Ukrainika” is distinguished by the original system of knowledge organization, based on the introduction of the unique reference and search apparatus and accompanying iconographic information. Internet resources are included in single search engine of the “Ukrainika”, along with other electronic documentary information sources. The created webliography gradually forms the Internet navigator of the Ukrainian segment of the Internet and in the future may be a guide to determining the value of Internet resources for archiving and long-term storage. Created reference apparatus is closely related to other Ukrainian reference web projects: Wikipedia, Encyclopedia of Ukrainian History (EIU), Internet Encyclopedia of Ukraine (IEU), Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine (ESU), the Ukrainian National Biographical Archive. It gives reason to consider, that the e-library “Ukrainika” is a real portal of knowledge about Ukraine.
