Analysis of metropolitan functions of the big city (on the example of the city of Kharkiv)

One of the manifestations of global processes in Ukraine is formation of a metropolization process specifically important for the society at the world level. Kharkiv is one of the largest cities of Ukraine therefore the analysis of its metropolitan functions is an important condition for definition of a further vector of the city development.
In the article the essence of the big city functions have been analyze. The concept of a metropolis and classification of the metropolitan functions of the world cities are given. The development stage of each metropolitan function of the city of Kharkiv has been analyzed. Among the metropolitan functions are organizational and administrative, innovative and creative, spiritual and cultural, information and representative, transport and communication. The most promising functions of the city have been revealed as well as the requirement for the development. The most perspective for Kharkiv is strengthening of innovative and creative function because of a high level of development of hi-tech productions in the city.
