HISTORICAL PARALLELS BETWEEN TWO WARS: THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNDERESTIMATING THE ADVERSARY AND IGNORING WARNINGS

The preparatory periods of the Russo-Ukrainian War on the eve of the Russian Federation’s fullscale invasion and the Yom Kippur War between Israel on the one side and Egypt and Syria on the other are examined. The measures taken to prepare for war by Israel in 1973 and by Ukraine in late 2021–early 2022 are analyzed. The outcomes of the Yom Kippur War and of the first phase of repelling Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine are compared, as well as their impact on the subsequent course of events and the consequences of pre-war miscalculations.
