Abstract

Purpose of Research. The purpose of the article is to analyse the characteristics of interpretation in jazz and its relationship with the phenomenon of improvisation. Methodology. The methodology consists of such methods as analysis and synthesis. The author applies the methods, associated with musicological study of modern literature, which presents different views on the interpretation of the music, including jazz. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty is to study the specifics ofjazz interpretations of works that highlights a combination of stable and mobile factors. It is noted that the jazz improvisation, due to the phenomenon, raises a wide field for the emergence of interpretational composer-performing versions. The author distinguishes the features of the today jazz, which changes the nature of improvisation towards the expansion of executive creativity. For the first time in Ukrainian musicology, the views of American researchers J. Brye and J. Levinson are presented. Conclusions. The appearance of interpretational versions of the work is an essential feature of the music. There are a number of stylistic directions, which create their own vision of the compositions. It is inevitable, including the leading role of jazz. The degree of freedom of performance in the playing of jazz shows the standards in musical improvisation. Although there are some sorts of «restrictions» in the construction of the improvisation in the music of the XXI century. The improvisations on the square, scale, style (except for the more traditional improvisation) contribute to the emergence of numerous interpretational versions ofjazz works that fully embody the idea of the unity of tradition and innovation, stable and mobile factors that are the basis of art.
