The purpose of our research was to develop a methodology for increasing the level of physical fitness and developing applied rescue skills based on the use of sports, outdoor games and relay races with elements of applied swimming in the process of training young swimmers. Material and methods: Data collection was carried out in the physical education and health-improving groups of the Pioneer swimming pool in Kharkiv (KZ MSDYUSSHOR for water sports named after Yana Klochkova). The study involved 20 teenagers aged 13-14 who attend swimming lessons. The subjects were divided into groups: experimental and control. In terms of gender and age, the composition of both groups was identical, the quantitative composition was the same - 10 people each. The content of health-improving and training classes in both groups corresponded to the official program of health-improving swimming. Under the conditions of the experiment, classes in the experimental group were conducted in a game form with the use of elements of applied swimming. The author's methodology for teaching the elements of applied swimming, which was used in the experimental group, consisted not only in increasing the amount of time allocated for the use of outdoor games in the water, but also in the use of various sports and outdoor games with elements of applied swimming. Persons who possess the technique of sports swimming methods were allowed to study applied swimming. The training program is designed for the period from January to June. During data collection, the following research methods were used: theoretical analysis and generalization of literary sources, pedagogical experiment, pedagogical control tests (testing), methods of mathematical processing of results. Results: The study revealed that both in the control and experimental groups there is a positive dynamics of changes in the results, but in the experimental groups there is a significant improvement in the results for all indicators of the level of physical fitness and development of applied rescue skills of young swimmers (p<0.05). It was established that in the experimental group, unlike the control, significantly higher growth rates of all studied indicators of physical fitness, swimming skills and applied rescue skills were recorded (p<0.05). The use of gaming equipment provided a complex effect on speed, endurance and applied characteristics, which is confirmed by statistically significant changes (p<0.05–0.001). Conclusions: the results of the study confirm the effectiveness of the experimental method of using sports, outdoor games and relay races with elements of applied swimming and give grounds to recommend it for implementation in the educational and training process of young swimmers.
