Policy on the use of artificial intelligence and AI-supported technologies
The policy of the journal ‘Library Science. Record Studies. Informology’ on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is based on the statements of COPE, WAME, the JAMA Network, the ICMJE guidelines, the requirements of the European AI Act, the Concept for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine, and the Law of Ukraine ‘On Academic Integrity’.
- Authors:
- must state in the cover letter accompanying their article which artificial intelligence tools were used during the preparation of the paper, the creation of images or graphic elements, the collection and analysis of data, and so on;
- cannot list AI tools as authors of the article: they cannot be held responsible for the submitted work, declare the presence or absence of a conflict of interest, or manage copyright and licensing agreements;
- if illustrative material has been created using AI, must specify the name of the tool and the prompts (queries) used. The use of AI-generated content must not infringe the rights of third parties (for example, the stylistic approach of artists, unless this is the subject of critical analysis);
- are responsible for the accuracy of the material presented, where ChatGPT chatbots or similar tools were used in its preparation, as well as for acknowledging all sources in their article;
- must adhere to the principles of academic integrity. All papers are checked for plagiarism, including the use of AI.
- Reviewers:
- when evaluating an article, must express their own expert judgement and not rely on AI conclusions;
- must not upload full-text manuscripts to publicly available or unsecured AI tools, so as not to compromise the confidentiality of the peer-review process.
- Editorial Board:
- checks all manuscripts submitted to the journal for plagiarism, including content generated by AI;
- decides whether to accept or reject a manuscript primarily on the basis of the scientific value, originality and quality of the research, rather than the use of AI during its preparation.
