The purpose of the article is to clarify the content of the terminological sections of current legislative acts of Ukraine in order to reveal their potential and possibilities of reflection in reference publications on library science. The research methodology is based on the application of general scientific and specialised methods of cognition. In processing sources and scholarly studies on the topic, the following methods were applied: empirical-descriptive, terminological, analysis, synthesis, and generalisation. The scientific novelty of the article lies in developing normative legal acts as sources of terminology for reference publications in library science. Conclusions. It has been established that normative legal acts are an important source of library science terminology for sectoral reference publications. Fundamental for library affairs is the Law of Ukraine ‘On Libraries and Library Affairs’, while the framework law for the activities of libraries and library institutions is the Law of Ukraine ‘On Culture’. For the standardisation of library science terminology, significant are those acts that regulate the activities of certain categories of libraries as research and educational institutions, as well as their performance of other naturally inherent functions (‘On Education’, ‘On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activity’, ‘On Publishing’). Important also are acts that have indirect significance for the field, representing particular value for areas related to library science – archival, museum, and information. These include: ‘On Museums and Museum Affairs’, ‘On the National Archival Fund and Archival Institutions’, ‘On the Protection of Cultural Heritage’, among others. Another category of acts concerns the legal aspects of the development of the information society in the digital environment (laws ‘On Digital Content and Digital Services’, ‘On Cloud Services’, ‘On Electronic Documents and Electronic Document Flow’, etc.). The terminological sections of laws reflect the state of development of specialised professional vocabulary, recorded at the time of their enactment, and are an important source for understanding the level of development of various spheres of social activity, including library affairs. It is noted that the study of the source base of library science terminology, and of individual types of sources, will allow for the revision and expansion of the list of lexemes in sectoral terminological reference books and encyclopaedias.
