Archiving and Documenting National Cultural Heritage in Wartime: A Communicative Dimension

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyse the archiving and documentation of national cultural heritage in wartime as a multidimensional communicative process that combines the functions of preserving cultural memory, forming national identity, and countering destructive information hybrid influences. Research methodology. The methodological basis of the study is a set of methods: cultural, communicative, and socio-cultural. The method of comparative analysis was also used, as well as elements of a case study to understand modern practices of digital archiving, museum monuments, and public initiatives to preserve cultural heritage in wartime. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the conceptualisation of archiving and documenting cultural heritage as a communicative strategy that goes beyond the purely fixation function, becoming an instrument of cultural diplomacy, information security, and symbolic resistance. The communicative levels of interaction between cultural institutions that accumulate and preserve cultural heritage objects, society and the international community in the context of wartime challenges are systematised. Conclusions. The study proves that in wartime, archiving and documentation of national cultural heritage are transformed into a dynamic process of public communication aimed at preserving historical memory, consolidating society and representing the national cultural narrative in the global information space. The effectiveness of these processes largely depends on the integration of digital technologies, institutional cooperation and awareness of the communicative potential of cultural heritage in the processes of preserving national identity, representativeness of Ukrainian culture in the international arena in the context of ongoing war.
