Abstrakt

The aim of the article is to show issues connected with presidential elections of 27 October 2013 in the Republic of Georgia, when Giorgi Margvelaszvili was chosen President.

The introduction presents the political situation of Georgia after the presidential elections of 2012, which saw the victory of the Georgian Dream coalition of Bidzina Iwaniszvili, and ended the nine year rule of the United National Movement of Mikheil Saakaszvili.

 The article later elaborates on the issue of by-elections for the Georgian parliament of December 2013, pre-election polls, profiles of presidential candidates and the election campaign.

In conclusion, the results of the presidential elections are presented, as well as the oath-taking ceremony, first actions of the newly-elected president and the end of Mikhel Saakaszvili’s second and last term in office. The political positions of new leaders of Georgia - President Giorgi Margvelaszvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibaszvili have also een analysed.
