А. Obikhod, A. Omelchenko, V. Boіko. Environmental safety of atmospheric air of Ukraine: spatial structuring.

Abstract

Current state of atmospheric air on the territory of Ukraine and its regions has been analyzed within specified direction of scientific research. Attention is paid to the dangerous effects of harmful emissions into the atmosphere both for population health and for the environment as a whole. Statistical basis on the following impact indicators has been analyzed: volumes of emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere from stationary and mobile sources (thousand tons) including per 1 km2 and per 1 person; volumes of greenhouse gas emissions (thousand tons) and harmful substances emissions in the context of individual pollutants (thousand tons) including, in particular, emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, methane, non-methane volatile organic compounds, soot and others. In order to clarify the results of calculations the authors have determined correction factors of impact on the population and the environment by expertise. The obtained results made it possible to conduct spatial structuring of the danger and determine 5 groups of regions: high level of danger –  Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk oblasts; higher –  Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia oblasts and Kyiv city; middle –  Kyiv, Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv and Lviv oblasts; moderate – Cherkasy, Odesa, Zhytomyr, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Chernihiv, Rivne oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; low– Volyn, Ternopil, Sumy, Chernivtsi oblasts and Sevastopol city. The detailed analysis allowed us to identify the areas that need special attention: Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk oblasts and Kyiv city. Directions for further research on the air conservation measures and prevention for specific objects have been considered which will reduce emissions of pollutants and stabilize the environmental safety level.
