Creative career of Yuriy Chaika: opera directing

The purpose of the article is to define drama study features of the producer's style of chief director of Dnepropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Yuriy Chaika, to identify the specificity of the form and content of the theatrical interpretation of the scores of Ukrainian, Russian, Western European operas, to determine the patterns of vocal and acting, the behavior of choir singers and general concepts of opera performances. Methodology of the article is determined by the systematic approach to the creative process of development of Yuriy Chaika as a opera producer on the stages of opera and ballet theatres of Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk. Scientific novelty is represented by the following provisions: 1) the author for the first time makes theatrical analysis of producer’s activities of Yuriy Chaika on the stages of opera and ballet theaters of Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk in the aspect of the integrity of stage- performance practice; 2) the author develops theoretical concept of "opera director" and determines its individual stylistic features in the works of Y. Chaika. Conclusions. The author has analyzed the features of directorial concepts of Yuriy Chaika in opera performances of opera and ballet theatres of Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk and his collaboration with such conductors as B.Afanasev, P.Varivoda, scenographer A.Arefev, choirmaster V.Puchkov and others. The researcher argues that this relationship becomes relevant as a natural process and a fruitful cooperation with conductors, orchestra, soloists and chorus. The analyzed theatrical literature allows us to explore the factors that influenced development of creative individuality of the opera director. Previously fragmented information about Chaika activity has been concentrated, and presented in chronological order.Downloads
