The purpose of the research is to reveal the fundamental nature of the status and function of the category space as a substantial universality in musical art. The methodology of the research is based on the interdisciplinary integration of the methods of modern philosophy, culturology and art criticism. Scientific novelty of the article is determined by the fact that the theme of scientific study is the phenomenon of complex correlations between the varieties of space, which ensure its systemic properties in music. Conclusions. The method of accurate computing of natural sciences is not enough to study the musical space, because they can not always explain the emergence of new sound-spatial qualities that are formed by the combination of spatial properties of elements of musical matter. Modern reality raises the problem of generalizing and systematizing the knowledge accumulated in art history, combining many techniques in the general methodology of research, which can be effectively applied to the analysis of works of academic music and other forms of musical traditions. Difficulties in creating a common methodology for studying the category of space consists in the weak elaboration of some approaches, for example, systemic, cultural, social.
