Festival “Lemkivska Vatra” in sub-ethnic group’s history and culture

Purpose of the Article. To discover the peculiarities of Festival “Lemkivska Vatra” to have been held in the village of Zhdynya (Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland) for 35 years in the context of sub-ethnic group’s historical and cultural life. The methodology consists in the use of historical and theoretical methods. The methodological approach mentioned above makes it possible to single out Lemko's hard life, peculiarities of their folklore to have been cultivated despite the lack of their unity. Scientific novelty. It is the first time the focus has been on Festival “Lemkivska Vatra” to be held in ethnic areas, its symbols, and importance to preserve sub-ethnic group’s culture. Conclusions . The author characterizes the festival as some specific and authentic event and an integral constituent of the Ukrainian culture as a whole. “Vatra” is an annual gathering of Lemkos from all over the world. They promote, develop and popularize the samples of their own culture. Moreover, they pass them down from generation to generation what testifies to the continuity of folk traditions.
