The author presents the general history of the activities of the Lavra church-arts school in the second half of the 18th century. For the first time, the drawings by which students studied and painted were published. Moreover, for the first time, the principle of learning painting was analysed. Conclusions. The findings demonstrate that this topic has been studied for two centuries, but it has not been studied enough. However, we can say with full confidence that the Lavra art school of the second half of the 18th century taught students according to Western European textbooks. This enabled teaching highly professional masters with their painting style. This confirms that the Lavra had a close connection with Europe, like all of Ukraine.
