Abstract

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the conceptual prerequisites for the interpretation of Lemki folklore as an “ethnocultural sign” in pop interpretations. The research methodology is based on general scientific methods of analysis (historical, semiological, cultural) and generalisation in the context of an interdisciplinary approach, which made it possible to conceptualise the idea of Lemkivshchyna as a “memory place”, Lemkiv folklore as an “ethnocultural sign” and to establish a hierarchical system of its reflection in pop interpretations. The scientific novelty consists in the interpretation of Lemki folklore as an “ethno-cultural sign”, the explanation this concept, certain ideas of socio-cultural concepts in the pop studies field. An author’s system of displaying ethnocultural symbolism in pop interpretations is proposed. Conclusions. The continuity of Lemkivshchyna phenomenon as a “memory place” is supported by performances of folklore samples in the interpretive range from authentic to transformational. Despite the new stylistics, they are designed to preserve the small homeland semantics as a sign that is manifested at different hierarchical levels: intonation (1), lexical (2), genre (3), performance manner (4), Lemki folklore syncretic system (5). The latter is a generalised “sign” that represents the mentality of the ethnic group and creates the “Lemki myth”.
