Abstract

The purpose of the study is to reveal the specifics of the implementation of hook principles of composition creation on the example of bright song samples of modern Ukrainian pop music. The research methodology consists in the application of musical-analytical, comparative, descriptive listening methods, which made it possible to identify ways of implementing hooks in the compositions of modern Ukrainian performers. Scientific novelty. The interpretation of the concept and typification of hooks in scientific research is generalised. For the first time, an attempt was made to highlight hook elements as one of the tools for creating a vocal pop composition in the songs of the Ukrainian finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest of different years. Conclusions. Based on the analysis of the songs, it is noted that in the compositions created by the ‘track-and-hook’ method, the authors involved a lot of hooks of various kinds. The most common are original rhythmic, technical-editing and individual-performing hooks. In addition, it should be noted bright instrumental hooks-allusions ‒ the sound of Hutsul (trumpet, imitation of cymbals) or Crimean Tatar (zurna) instruments, as well as melodic hooks (archaic folk intonations), which give the compositions a special identity. The performed analysis confirms that the use of the ‘track-and-hook’ method opens up the possibilities of a versatile, in particular, psychological impact on the audience, when carefully placed hooks bring a dose of pleasure and contribute to the brain enjoying new ‘goodies’ in the composition every time.
