The content of ethnographic research activity of the famous Ukrainian teacher, musicologist, ethnographer, choreographer, conductor and composer V. Its four stages were defined, according to the periods of his life : 1) propaeteutical – the period of teaching at the national schools of Galicia and the beginning of artistic activity (1899–1904); 2) generalizing – the period of theater music-educational and ethnographic research activity (1904–1919); 3) introducing – the period of pedagogical activity at the higher educational institutions (1919–1930); 4) innovatory – the period of pedagogical and cultural-educative work with art groups (1930–1938).
