About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The collection publishes experimental articles and reviews on breeding and genetics, physiology, seed production, seed studies, plant genetic resources, variety studies and other problems related to breeding of field crops.

The editorial policy of the journal - publication and subsequent discussion of innovative research materials of authors from different countries on a wide range of challenges in agricultural science and related sectoral sciences.

The Editorial Board of the journal applies the principles of scientific rigor, objectivity, professionalism, information support of the most important innovative investigations, compliance with the norms of publication ethics.

A feature of the collection Selection and Seed Industry is support of young scientists’ works, including students and post-graduate students. Full texts in the language of writing articles and extended English abstracts are uploaded in the public domain on the site of the collection. The reason that full texts are not completely in English is the fact that the collection is focused on agricultural investigations closely associated with locations of many authors’ studies (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and others) as well as a great interest in the collection publications from agricultural manufacturers.

The purpose of the journal Selection and Seed Industry is extension of publication and discussion of scientific ideas on modernization of agricultural sectors, involving major representatives of domestic and foreign scientific and professional communities.

The objectives of the magazine are as follows:

• Publication of scientific results on expansion and modernization of investigations in agriculture and related industries, implementation of innovations in production;

• Expansion of partnership with foreign scientific publishing organizations;

• Improvement of review and annotation culture of releasable articles;

• Compliance with the editorial ethics.

The journal is a royalty-free edition. A decision to publish or to reject submitted manuscripts is made by the Editorial Board in accordance with the review guidelines. The Editorial Board reserve the right to make editorial changes in submitted manuscripts, reduce their volume, reject thematically inappropriate or not properly prepared manuscripts, strictly following the rules in the editorial ethics. Manuscripts rejected by the Editorial Board are not reviewed or returned. Reprint of materials published in the journal is not allowed. Submitting a manuscript to the Editorial Board, authors agree to publication of it in the journal Selection and Seed Industry, placement of it on the website of the journal, transfer of the article to the third parties in order to ensure citation of the article and to raise the citation index of authors and the journal.

Peer Review Process

1. Experimental articles and reviews are accepted for publication in the journal Selection and Seed Industry.

2. Submitted manuscripts should conform to the journal profile: agricultural sciences.

3. A submitted manuscript is registered at the Editorial Board with recording receipt date, authors’ names, places of employment, contacts for communication, manuscript title.

4. A manuscript is accepted by the Editorial Board for consideration, if it is executed in accordance with the requirements.

5. Post-graduate students and external PhD students should submit a manuscript to the journal along with a recommendation for publication (in any format) signed by the research advisor and a referee report. Signatures are certified according to the established procedure.

6. The executive group of the Editorial Office sends the manuscript for reviewing to members of the Editorial Board according to one of the research areas of the journal.

7. The journal performs double-blind reviewing. The Editorial Board reserves the right (in agreement with authors) to reduce the manuscript volume, literary edit the manuscript and refuse to publish (on the basis of a referee report from a member of the Editorial Board of the journal), if the article does not fit the profile of the journal, or if the presentation is of insufficient quality. In case of rejection of a manuscript the editorial office sends the authors a reasonable refusal.

8. In case of referees’ recommendations to revise the manuscript, the author / authors will receive the referee report without identifying the referee’s name on a mandatory basis.

9. The manuscript modified or revised by the authors is re-sent for reviewing along with its original version as soon as possible.

10. Manuscripts rejected after reviewing are not re-considered.

11. Manuscripts previously published in other scientific editions are not accepted for consideration.

12. Materials devoted to anniversaries can have a descriptive abstract and a minimum number of key words in English and Russian.

Publication Frequency

The publication frequency of  the collection - two issues per year, in June and December annually.

Open Access Policy

The journal pursues an open access policy regarding published contents, supporting the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOIA) aimed at the open and free dissemination of scientific knowledge, which promotes the development of agricultural science and the integration of scientists into the international academic space.

Ethic norms of publication

The Editorial Board of the journal Selection and Seed Industry adheres to the following rules of the publication ethics:

• Strict adherence to the basic principles of the edition: scientific rigor, objectivity, professionalism, information support of the most important innovative investigations;

• Unconditional loyalty to all subjects of creative process involved in issuing the journal;

• Extensive use of double-blind peer review, with the participation of equitable competent referees;

• Permanent advisory work with authors aimed at meeting the requirements of the international databases SCOPUS and Web of Science to layout and content of manuscripts submitted to publication;

The Editorial Board of the journal Selection and Seed Industry conforms with the following documents:

Editorial Ethics is a set of rules, on which relationships regarding publications between members of the editorial board and external referees and authors are built. The Editor in Chief (Deputy Editor) coordinates all work of the Editorial Board, makes decisions on key issues, considers all contentious issues concerning compliance with commitments as well as signs a current number to print and gives permission to upload materials on the site.

Authorship Issues. When submitting manuscripts to publication in the journal Selection and Seed Industry , authors agree that in case of acceptance of these materials to publication they can be entered in the electronic databases with mandatory indication of authorship and full reservation of copyright. The text of a manuscript should present full information about external sources - a reference list (including authors’ own previously published articles). Authors must properly use quotes and / or references. Any form of plagiarism is unacceptable.

Editorial staff must:

• Comply with correct and respectful attitude to authors and their scientific aspirations, keep editorial confidentiality, prevent unconscientiousness upon processing manuscrips;

• Not amend authors’ texts at will, agree upon a final version of the text after making editorial changes with authors;

• Not publish manuscripts, if they are not of scientific value, do not meet the journal profile, or contradict its editorial policy, or in case of strong evidence to believe that they contain plagiarism or were previously published in other editions;

• Ensure participation of equitable competent referees, use double (blind) peer review.

Referees must:

• Comply with the standard timeframe for review established by the Editorial Board ;

• Treat a manuscript received for review as a confidential document, not make it available to other people; referees’ report must also be kept confidential;

• Not use data from unpublished manuscripts;

• Give an impartial, well-grounded and correct assessment of study results.

Authors of articles must:

• Specify novelty, originality and validity of study results; all other authors’ materials should be presented with a precise indication of these authors and primary sources;

• Avoid excessive adoption and plagiarism in any form; avoid autoplagiarism; ensure that the article contains exclusive material and was not previously published or submitted to publication in other editions;

• Participate in the peer review process.

Journal History

It was founded under the name Semenovodstvo (Seed Production) in the USSR in 1935. After merging with the journal Sovetskaya Agronomiya (Soviet Agronomy) it was called Zemledeliye (Agriculture). In 1941–1945, the publication was interrupted. In 1964, the journal was named Selekciâ i Semenovodstvo (Plant Breeding and Seed Production, ISSN 0582-5075) and published by the Ukrainian Research Institute of Plant Production, Breeding and Genetics named after VYa Yuriev of the Southern Branch of the All-Union Agricultural Academy named after VI Lenin. After Ukraine had gained independence in 1991, the journal was renamed as Selektsiia i Nasinnytstvo (Selection and Seed Production, also referred to as Selection and Seed Industry; ISSN print 1026-9959, ISSN on line 2413-7510); the publisher was renamed as the Plant Production Institute named after VYa Yuriev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (PPI nd. a VYa Yuriev NAAS).
