In 2005, a cultivated sunflower, highly tolerant to the herbicides of imidasoline chemical family (IMI), was found in a soybean field in Donetzk areas in Ukraine. The analogs (BC-2) of parent sunflower lines were created which were tolerant to the herbicides.F1 generations produced from the crossings are completely resistant to the IMI-herbicides, pointing to the dominant way of inheritance of this trait.
