Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Це подання раніше не було опубліковане і не надсилалося до розгляду редакціям інших журналів (або у коментарях для редактора нижче дані необхідні пояснення).
  • Файл подання є документом у форматі Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, RTF або WordPerfect.
  • Інтернет-посилання у тексті супроводжуються повними коректними адресами URL.
  • Текст набраний 12-м розміром кеглю з одинарним міжрядковим інтервалом; авторські акценти виділені курсивом, а не підкресленням (всюди, крім адрес URL); всі ілюстрації, графіки та таблиці розміщені безпосередньо у тексті, там, де вони повинні бути за змістом (а не у кінці документу).
  • Текст відповідає вимогам до стилістики та бібліографії, викладеним у Керівництві для авторів розділу "Про журнал".
  • Якщо матеріал подається у рецензований розділ журналу, при оформленні файлу подання були виконані інструкції щодо Гарантій сліпого рецензування.

Author Guidelines

  1. THEMATIC AREA OF THE JOURNAL AND THE EDITORIAL PROCESS

The Social Work and Education is an international peer-reviewed open access journal.

Social Work and Education considers for publication original research, editorials, commentaries, literature reviews, annotations of books, the dissertation research for the degree of doctor and Ph.D, research that were previously presented at scientific conferences and other meetings.

The research presented in this publication reveals the theoretical foundations of social work in Ukraine and abroad, social work practice, interdisciplinary social work, social work education and branches of scientific knowledge, that make up the contents of social work education: philosophy of social work education, social work education history, sociology of social work education, law of social work education, education policy, social policy, social work management, economics, economics of social work education.

It is expected that the submitted manuscripts have not been published previously, are not currently under consideration for publication in other journals, and are not archived as pre-prints.

Social Work and Education publishes 4 issues a year. Given the number of received articles, the usual duration of article review is from 1 to 3 months and the usual publishing time is up to half a year after the submission of the contribution.

  1. ETHICAL ISSUES

During the submission of articles for potential publication in the Social Work and Education, it is necessary to declare the following through the online system:

  • that the proposed paper is exclusively the result of your own research work or the work of a research group you represent as the first author of the proposed contribution
  • that, in case you are the first author of the paper, you have notified all other authors of the paper about the procedure and ethical demands for publishing your paper in the journal;
  • that the works and opinions of other authors which you have used in your work are clearly cited and acknowledged in the text as well as in the References section;
  • that the text has not been published or sent for publishing in this form or in the form in which a larg- er part of the text (over 50%) has been used in another journal, book or other publication.

Ethics of research

If the work contains research results, it is necessary to state the ethical aspects taken into account during the process of conducting the research. It is desirable that ethical aspects of the research be presented in the work in such a way that the author/authors describe the principles they adhered to regarding the conducted research (for example, describing the aim and the purpose of the research, informed consent, the protection of data related to research participants, care about the well-being of research participants etc.). The chapter of the paper which describes the methodology and the process of conducting the research should contain permits of ethics commissions for conducting the research and a note on accepting provisions of ethical standards in research, such as the Code of Ethics for Research involving Children (2003).
Also, if the research is conducted as a part of an ongoing or completed project, it is necessary to name the project.

  1. TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

First page should include the following information:

  • Name(s) and surname(s) of each author (in English and Ukrainian). For authors needing Ukrainian translations, the Editorial Board provides support upon request.
  • Affiliation of each author (in English and Ukrainian)
  • Degree of each author (in English and Ukrainian)
  • E-mail(s)
  • ORCID number (ORCID can be obtained at https://orcid.org/)
  • UDC (http://www.udcsummary.info/php/index.php?lang=en&pr=Y)

Manuscript should contain the following:

  • Title of the article (in English and Ukrainian)
  • Abstract (in English and Ukrainian (1800 signs)) and keywords
  • Introduction
  • Aim and purpose of the work/research
  • Research methodology (for research papers)
  • Results and Discussion
  • Research limitations (for research papers)
  • Conclusions
  • References

Foreign expressions, including document titles and names of institutions in a foreign language, should be written in english if article is in english

The article сan be divided into meaningful sections with separate titles. Do not make the headings too long - the subtitle should contain 3-7 words. Subtitle should be written in bold letters.

Underlining should not be used. All additionally underlined parts of the text should be written in italics.

The names used in the text (names of institutions, associations, terms from other works) should be placed in quotation marks. In papers based on the qualitative approach, the names of topics/terms/ categories/codes etc. should also be placed in quotation marks. The following quotation marks are used in the SW&E: the opening quotation mark for quotations/titles should be «, while the closing quotation mark should be ». In summary, these are the quotation marks: « ».

The pages should be numbered and footnotes should be used only exceptionally.

The article should be submitted in Word format (.doc or .docx format).

Additional materials and attachments can be published in the journal (supplementary materials).

Figures and tables should be numbered and should have their own captions, which should be short and clear. The caption should be placed above the tables and under the images and graphs. The images should be prepared in JPEG, EPS or TIFF format, graphs displaying the results in Excel format and tables in Word format. All tables, graphs and images should be in black and white, without any additional colours. It is necessary to cite the source under all figures taken from other sources. If tables or text contain results of statistical analyses, it is necessary to provide all relevant information required for the reader to understand the findings independently, without reading the text in detail. Decimal place in decimal numbers should be separated by points and a zero should be added where necessary.

In-text citation and references

When citing other authors, works and documents, the source should be cited by placing parentheses with the last name of the author and the publishing year in the appropriate place in the text (АРА style referencing). In case of citing documents, the parentheses should contain the full title of the document and the publishing year. In case of a more precise quote or citation, the reference should also include page numbers. The references should be cited in the text in the following way: one author (Horishna, 2006), quote (Horishna, 2006, 24), two authors (Horishna & Polishchuk, 2010), three authors (Horishna, Soroka & Polishchuk, 2009), four and more authors (Horishna et al., 2012). Secondary sources should be cited in the following way: (Evans, 2008, cited in Betsch & Glockner, 2010). Documents should be cited in the following way: (Social Welfare Act, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 Article 6, Paragraph 1).

In accordance with the requirements of indexing systems for journal articles, bibliographic data of all sources that are not written in Latin must be translated into English with the original language in parentheses, for example, (in Ukrainian). Exsample: Домашнє насильство в Україні. (2000). Звіт за результатами дослідження організації. Правозахисники Міннесоти. К. 27 с. [Domestic violence in Ukraine. (2000). Report on the results of the study of the organization. Minnesota human rights activists. K, 27. (in Ukrainian).

After each reference DOI number should be added, if available. Example: https://doi.org/number

At the end of the article there should be a reference list of all sources used in the text. All literature should be listed in alphabetical order in АРА.

Requirements for text design

  • Page format - A4.
  • Font - Times New Roman 12.
  • The interval - 1.5
  • Paragraph indentation - 10 mm.
  • Margins: left - 20 mm, right - 20 mm, top - 20 mm, bottom - 20 mm.
  • Volume - from 8 to 12 pages.
  • Article language: Ukrainian, English.
